There were no Committee Reports due to the holidays the previous month.
A brief discussion occurred regarding the Pastoral Plan for Parish Renewal. This is a training session for catechumens lasting a year with a three year training program. We currently have our Rite of Catholic Initiation for Adults which is available for those adults interested in joining the church. There does not seem to be a need or desire for a more lengthy, involved program.
Our church will be hosting the Parish Renewal Program meeting on January 24, 2018. The meeting will last from 9:00 a.m. until noon. All were invited to attend.
The Council voiced its displeasure with the Parish Renewal Program. The displeasure is based on promises that were made concerning individual involvement with each parish. There seems to be no commitment to assist us in defining our needs much less what efforts should be made to renew our parish. Other than receiving a large outline that we were asked to fill out there has not been any individual effort to address the needs of St. Andrew/At. Ann.
The Pastoral Council questioned whether we should continue our commitment to the program. Father Gary informed the Council that Gary Landoll from the diocese can answer our questions concerning the financial commitment of the diocese as well as whether we can terminate our relationship with the program in less than three years.
Jessica Fritsche reported that the Womens Groups will begin a bible study using Church of the Small Things. More than 25 women have signed up to participate. There will be two sessions meeting in The Annex.
Chrissy Kraus is working on starting a small group focusing on health.
Ash Wednesday will be celebrated at 8:30 a.m. with the Childrens Mass at St. Andrew. There will be 4:30 p.m. Mass in the Chapel at St. Joseph Hospital. St. Ann will have Mass at 6:30 p.m.
Frank and Di Riley are in charge of an ad hoc committee arranging for presentation of the Stations of the Cross during Lent. Starting Friday February 16 at 7:00 p.m., after the Knights of Columbus Fish Fry, Stations of the Cross will be held at St. Andrew and continue for the next five Fridays. On Good Friday the Stations of the Cross will be held at 3:00 p.m. at St. Andrew. On Good Friday Mass will be celebrated at St. Ann at 3:00 p.m.
The plan developed by Frank and Di involves individuals offering a description of each station before the officiant leads prayers for that station. Jenny Martin and the St. Andrew School students will present on April 16. On February 23rd the Parish Councils will present followed on March 2nd by the Knights of Columbus then on March 9th Ken Peterin and the Adorers of Precious Blood will present. The final two presenters will be March 16 by the Mens and Womans Cursillo Groups together with Kairos members and on March 23rd the Altar Society will present. On Good Friday, March 30th, all groups will come together for presentation.
The Lenten theme this year is Come and See. There will be wristbands and literature handed out throughout the season indicating where the passages are in the Bible and notes to help describe each of the sessions.
Linda Porter-Smith is working on the Ministries Handbook.
Rebecca Korando is meeting shortly with Nicole Smeltzer to plan the parish directory.
Planning needs to begin on a future retreat or revival as it will take time to get a speaker and plan for the event.
Thoughts need to be given concerning candidates for the upcoming Pastoral Council election.
Bill Schwartz moved to adjourn the meeting at 7:17 p.m. The motion was seconded by Kevin Junk.
Respectfully submitted by Bill Schwartz
