Meeting opened at 6:00 pm.
Opening prayer was led by Cindy Canning.
Minutes from May, 2019 meeting were reviewed. Bill made a motion to approve the minutes, and Linda Kranawetter seconded the motion. All were in favor.
Cindy Canning reported that Tina Lustig would like to withdraw from the parish council because of other committments.
Deacon Don reported that he has been working on developing a small group to study church encyclicals, and planning is still ongoing.
Linda Kranawetter reported that a small group meets after mass at St. Anns on Sundays during this summer, to discuss the readings.
Garrett asked about development of other small groups. If anyone wants to develop or lead a group, it is encouraged. Currently, there is a Grandparents group, a Womens bible study, and Cursillo small groups.
The committee has met to discuss goals, and reported the following. Welcoming new parishioners is a big goal of the committee. Prayer cards for St. Andrew and St. Ann will be printed, and will be available for the hospitality ministers to provide to visitors at masses. Information on the back of the cards may include mass times and website information, etc.
The committee is planning a Welcoming Event, on Aug 10th, for new parishioners. This includes any new members and those who went through RCIA. They will be invited to attend mass at 4:30, followed by a meet-and-greet in the Annex. They will be invited to the Festival, and will be provided free tickets to the KC hall for supper. They may receive a welcome bag, with a yard sign, parish yearbook, and other church and ministry information. All parish council members are encouraged to attend this event and welcome new members.
Linda Porter-Smith reported that Bill will be scheduling trainings for ministers, including Hospitality ministers, Ushers, Lectors, and Eucharistic ministers. Lanyards or crosses will be provided for ministers to obtain before masses. This will help identify Hospitality Ministers, and to make sure there are enough Eucharistic ministers present at mass. Presentation of the Gifts will also be included as a ministry for people to sign up for, or Hospitality ministers can ask parishioners to participate.
Bill reported that a letter was emailed to the Lectors about reading the Prayers of the Faithful at masses.
Bill will have the committee work on communicating to parishioners about participating in Presentation of the Gifts.
Audrey reported that the steeple has been repaired at St. Ann. Rebecca reported there is a large stain upstairs on the wall at St. Andrew that needs to be checked.
Cindy reported that Frank checked on the city ordinance for having an electronic sign on Walnut Street, and presented that to the council. The cost of a sign would be expensive, and will be considered at a later date.
Bill reported that an estimated cost for two monitors in St. Andrew Church is $3-6,000. The monitors would be used for music, prayers, readings, and announcements. This will be pursued further.
Hosts for visiting priests: Bill reported that volunteers are needed for meeting visiting priests on weekends. Responsibilities would include meeting them and providing them keys, meals, or rides to St. Ann. Bill will advertise in the bulletin and request interested persons to contact Rebecca, Bill, or Cindy Thompson. Bill will email the instruction list to council members.
St. Andrew Festival will be August 9-10th. The parish council members decided to donate a basket for the Silent Auction. If anyone would like to donate an item for a Dog Lovers gift basket, please bring it the next meeting.
Rob led a discussion about the importance of uplifting music at masses. Suggestions included using familiar songs. It was discussed that having monitors in the front of the church may help with increasing participation in singing.
Jordan suggested that more servers be trained at St. Andrew, especially for the 5:30 mass. Suggestions for encouraging more students and/or adults to be trained and to sign-up were discussed, and will be ongoing.
Bill Schwartz made a motion to adjourn the meeting, and Audrey Arnold seconded the motion. All were in favor.
Closing prayer was led by Deacon Don.
The meeting ended at 6:56 p.m.
The next parish council meeting is scheduled for July 18th, at 6pm.
Respectfully submitted by Linda Bunselmeyer
